Margono Paper History
Margono Paper debuted in 1968 as a paper retail shop in Chinatown, Semarang – a port city in Central Java, Indonesia. We started our business by importing varieties of paper including colored paper for our local Indonesian market.
In 1978, our founder Mr. Budi Margono Salim, started purchasing machinery to make colored paper specializing in wedding invitations. The wedding card industry grew rapidly and we successfully captured the majority of our local market in a short period of time.

Later in 1995, we had our first exhibition at the International Paper Exhibition “Asean Paper” in Singapore to open our export market. First, we started to export to nearby countries such as Australia. After that, our customer base continued to grow exponentially due to our high-quality products and low MOQ. In 2000, we started expanding our export market to Europe by participating in the Paperworld Exhibition – the world’s biggest paper fair – in Frankfurt, Germany. To this day, we continue to be a regular participant every year at Paperworld, which is now called Ambiente, in Frankfurt.
Since then, Margono Paper export market has grown significantly. Currently our export makes up to 90% of our total production. Margono Paper has transformed from a local paper retailer to a leading global paper supplier with customers hailing from over 50 countries across Oceania, Africa, Europe, Asia Pacific & Middle East, and America.
